A wonderful day, as always..
This holiday is fantastic, one of the best parts of being Swedish!
But I must admit I was a bit tired yesterday.. I still am actually.

Preparations..

Preparations, preparations.. Today we celebrate Midsummer in Sweden, a day filled with food, drinks and games. And of course we celebrate the fact that it's summer, together with family or/and friends! So yesterday evening we did some preparations for the big day! Right now I'm packing a bag for all types of weather, because this day always seems to include a lot of surprises and shifting weather.
We are going to spend the day with friends, looking som much forward to it! Usually we try to visit my family and hometown on this holiday, but not this year. I imagine there will be a few more drinks this year, as we're in the company of bartenders.
And obviously I will spend tomorrow resting, so I'll show some pictures from this years lovely celebration on Sunday. Have a nice weekend!

Work and play

Usually when you're a student maybe you have the whole summer to do absolutely nothing or you get a job and work hard. This summer I'm actually taking a course about social medias, working a bit.. and hopefully I'll get to enjoy the wonderful season a bit too.

But I have put up some personal goals this summer. It involves to stay creative, to get better at what I do and really practice the things I've learned this past year.
If I put off time to paint, sketch, draw comics, practicing drawing and editing in different computer programs - school starting in August-September won't come as such a shock! And maybe I'll be closer on finding my own creative style.

Right now it's all about working with colors, painting with acrylics today. Clear, blending, contrast, dark, light, transparency, abstract, realistic - you name it, I'm practicing it!

Six Degrees by M.Lynas

This really is a book worth reading and I think an eye-opener to many.. Because based on scientific reports and actual facts, this is a possible view into a terrifying future - IF we don't change our ways and focus on the environment. It´s about what consequense every increasing degree can do to the climate on earth, and everyone living on it. How global warming slowly will be the end. I borrowed the book on the local library, and I can't stop reading it because it's scary.. scary because it can become reality.

I think everyone should read it, just to realize the desperate need of the change in our behaviour. And yes, maybe you won't experience those tragic consequences.. but do you want your children/grandchildren or somebody else's to? After you read it, I don't think you would wish your worst enemy that destiny.
I don't want to sound like a preacher, but if you don't fully understand what global warming is or have some trouble understanding why you should recycle/use less electricity or energy at home/take the bike instead of the car and so on.. I encourage you to read it, then you will have enough explanation.

Mucha inspiration

I love the works and posters by the Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist Alphonse Mucha, and I was browsing the net to look at it. When I found a lot of images of tattoos inspired from his work. Like this on for example..

Makes me want to book an appointment with a tattoo artist, straight away! Isn't it fantastic?!
At home we have "the four seasons" posters by Alphonse Mucha, bought them in the Montmartre area in Paris. The style, the details and the beautiful women - I think they are wonderful and wouldn't mind having more of them hanging on the wall.

Summer Burst

I'm saving a broken branch from a strawberry plant. Hoping that I will be able to plant it later, when some roots have emerged.. But just having this soon-to-be strawberry plant in this colorful glass, in the kitchen window, really feels like summer..!

Big and Beautiful Monster

I just had to buy this fantastic and HUGE Monstera leaf yesterday, just look at it! Just the leaf itself is more than 50 centimeters long and wide.. Who needs flowers when a leaf can be this amazing!? (I do, but still..! I hope it'll last forever..)

Summer Nails!

I like to use as much color as possible in the summer - at home, when I draw or work, in the way I dress and especially with different colors on my nails. We know that color is a good way to enhance your tan.
Although we should all put the nail polish makers under pressure to eliminate or reduce toxic ingredients, as it effects our lifes and the environment.

But in the meantime we can make sure that the disposal of old or empty nail polish "bottles" is taken care of. Nail polish is hazardous waste. You should leave it at the recycling station. If you don't know where to go with your waste - ask around or browse the internet. There should be a place where you can leave that kind of waste in your city/hometown.

If you want to have pretty hands, make sure you take responsibility when you've emptied that  beautiful nail polish. Always make sure that the makeup you buy haven't been tested on animals, like IsaDora's nail polish for example.

Light my fire

I got these glass candle holders from a friend, along with suitable matches for me. It's a big box with matches in "comic book style". Since I love glass objects and green, the candle holders are a perfect fit! I'm amazed of how well my friends know me..! (She bought these at Village.)

Chilli on the way

Jippi, my chilli plants are in full bloom again this year and already has a few fruits popped up on the stems. This year I don't have a balcony, but that just proves that it's possible to have them indoors in your window. As long as you water them regurarly and keep them in a well-lit place.

I have two different kinds of chilli plants. But in the move last year I kind of mixed the two pots and now I'm not sure which one is which.. I'll just have to wait until those fruits start showing some color!

RED

Found this gorgeous "gypsy woman" in a second hand-shop this weekend, and I knew where those red lips were going..!

I knew exactly where to put it because I like to have small red details in the bedroom, and there was kind of an empty spot.. appropriate with a little bit of red in the bedroom, I think. You know "Red is for passion". And also the painting only cost 40 swedish kroner, so a no-brainer!

(Don't worry it's just a small pen, some friends gave me when I was working in France.
A fun detail next to all my "serious" pens, haha..)

Graduation!

Also known as Studenten in Sweden! Celebrating my cousins, they're graduating - so sun, cake and family is what this weekend is all about! And maybe some wine with that..?!

Happened to you..?

In front of the TV.. even if you want to get up and leave, you just get sucked back in.

Swedish National Day

Ok, got the day off from work and school. It's still quite new that the 6th of june is holiday, and I think it's a bit unnecessary, because no one I know celebrates it. But I'm not complaining, it felt good not being woken up by the alarm clock this morning. Give us an extra day around Midsummer instead!

I'd rather..

do the boring stuff, before doing the things that I need to do.. somehow I get a thousand ideas of what I can do instead!
That's why I have been working really hard these last couple of days, trying to get it all ready in time. Which I did! So now I'm happy, relieved and exhausted!

Early Bird

Way too early to be up, on a Friday morning.. But when you have a lot to do, and little time to spare. Sleep is often the cruel sacrifice..!
