May.. over already?!

I'm finding it really hard to keep up.. with this thing we call time. I mean, what happened with the month of May? Where did it go and where was I??! Yeah, sure.. I've had a lot of things to do the last couple of weeks with the final project in school and all, but still. It just.. Poof! Gone! I can't be the only one thinking and experiencing this.. am I?
Anyway, talking about the project. A few days ago, I sent my illustrations off to become "prints" and some of the illustrations will even get tried out as t-shirt decor. I'm not really sure on how good the printing company I hired is, but it's more for the presentation of the project. If I'm not satisfied with the prints and t-shirt, I can just try a different company at a later time or with another project. The presentation and the final date for the project is due next week. Hopefully all the prints and t-shirts will be done today. So I'll have enough time this weekend to prepare for the presentation. Jippie..exciting stuff!
I'll post my work here in a few weeks, and would love some feedback. So feel free to comment about it. :)

Cards'n'Cake

Celebrated my boss yesterday, with presents and cake. Ate way too much cake, but it was soooo good. Blueberry and cream, Mmm..! I made a card for the occassion, and felt quite pleased with the result. It was appreciated, so it wasn't just me and my opinion.. haha.. :)

We're also going out for dinner and some drinks next week, to celebrate her some more. So looking forward to that!

DIY bridal hair comb

Found this super easy tutorial and got totally inspired to create my own hair comb for the wedding. I'm going to be on the lookout for a cool brooch or maybe light grey pearls to use. Or maybe some cute buttons, there are several possibilities! This way it will be unique, handmade and probably a lot cheaper than buying a new or vintage hair comb/jewelry.

Et tu, Cactus..?

Some of my plants decided to demonstrate the fact that they were sharing this pot. So I got some new soil and rocks, and gave them both some space. ;)

Lotta Kühlhorn - my inspiration

I found this book just as I started my project, this semester. It has been my bible, my star and my inspiration. I've been carrying it around everywhere(my arms are getting strong!). It's called "Rapport! En bok om att göra mönster", and it really is the essentials of pattern making. A real Best-buy!
Lotta Kühlhorn, a true inspiration and I have made her my unofficial mentor thanks to this book. It's the kind of woman one would like to work with or be an assistant for. Demanding that she has too teach me everyhing she knows. She's incredible and has accomplished a lot, created so many unforgettable patterns. Her book has been a real help, when it comes to measurements, how-to-think and good advice. You can probably tell, she's my Mr.Miyagi. I read the book, wax on.. read the book, wax off!
I don't know if you can buy it in English, but the Swedish version has really opened my eyes for the perfect profession!

Avocado Tree

You remember that Avocado seed I had in a vase..? Well it cracked and roots came out. I planted it, and waited almost 5 weeks. And look, it's growing! After it got about 15 cm high, I read that it was best to cut it down. So I did. After a few days, I got a bit anxious because it looked as though it was about to dry out.. But now there's small, small branches growing on the sides again. The key during this, has been keeping the soil moist but not too wet. That's really the trick, so far! I'll keep you posted on the progress. :)

School, school, school...

I haven't really had the time to write any posts lately. My project in school is taking a lot of time, and I have less than a month to finish it. And then there's work and training in between the hours spent in school.
My project is very inspired by nature. You can see some of the floral patterns I've been working on above.
This project has been less comics and more illustrations and patterns, suitable for interior design, fabrics and prints. Because I've noticed that's something I really love to work with.
I've also been focusing on my own portfolio and graphic profile. So that I can be ready to create a new website and maybe even my own company. I'm going to spend my summer exploring the possibilities and see what's best. But either way, it's good to create your image before - especially on the web and before you go out looking for jobs/assignments.

Well I'm off to find a press and printing service, before spending my afternoon in school today. So wish me luck(and affordable prices!) and have a lovely day!

Saving up for the Big Day!

Yes, that is what this year will be all about! Saving up for the wedding, so as a constant reminder I made a little money box with a wedding theme. I used an old can that originally contained wasabi peas(Not important to know, any box will do! But it was some tasty wasabi peas!).
I got the idea from a friend and colleague from Oslo, she always made beautiful boxes with different motifs. She actually made me one. A money box with a New York-theme, when we just had booked the tickets for our vacation there.
The end result of my gluing on this box, came out a bit too cute for me. I kind of got hooked and once I entered that lovey-dovey state of mind - it was hard to press the Off-button! But I guess that's just what planning your wedding can do to you.. sometimes. I hope I don't get as carried away when it comes to the actual day. Please.. I beg you, if necessary, please tell me to stop or at least take a few steps back and pause - before continuing. There's a big difference between, "over the moon" and "over the top"! I'll let this money box work as a reminder for that too, as well as the savings up-part. I adore the snowflakes though!

Fritillaria

Got a pretty table at home.. focusing on the pretty items on it and less on the table! Friday flowers this week begins with F... These pretty bottles with pretty Fritillaria flowers in them, that is..! Love the brown with the yellow-green tones. One of them even was a "twin" flower! Sweet deal, 2 for the price of 1!

Mutant or Hybrid..?

This is my new Pelargonium (Pelargon in Swedish. Geranium in English, I think.). This one was a bit more special, and I can't resist unique things! Especially flowers like this one, different from all the rest of the "batch". If it's a mutation or hybrid, doesn't matter. This polka white/pink detail in this very otherwise coral coloured flower, brightens up my working space for the moment!

Stockholm International Comics Festival 2013

This is where I'm spending parts of my upcoming weekend! Call me a comics geek, I'm proud to be it! Check out their website for more information and also the awesome fan art. Looking forward to take a closer look at this year's theme. Very excited!
This is how they describe the theme on Kulturhuset's website:

THE GREAT ESCAPE

This year's festival theme is “escapism”, focusing on genres such as adventure, fantasy, horror, science fiction, superheroes and surrealism – and the wave of escapist and epic comics that has made it’s mark on the Swedish comics scene in recent years. If you want to escape reality in 2013, you should do it with us!

 So, see you there...!? :)

Tasty Herbie

Ahh, it's finally that time of the year! When the herbs in your kitchen actually get enough light to live for a longer period of time. Good for the economy and for the taste buds!
In the winter time the herbs, don't really survive more than cooking for a couple of meals. Right now, Mr. Parsley and Mrs.Basil is accompagning us in the kitchen and I'll give it a try to keep them alive! Oh, by the way I found a great and funny food/recipe blog yesterday, and felt the urge to share! Check it out, Pass The Sushi!
